Six OPUS families made winter camp near Lone Pine, with the Eastern Sierra as a backdrop and overnight temperatures dropping to 14 degrees. Basecamp was easy:
"We set up basecamp at Independence Canyon Campground. It was BLM run and we were able to book our spots online very easily."
Six days covered Movie Road through the Alabama Hills' famous rock formations, dirt biking, hiking and the drive up to the Cerro Gordo ghost town.
"This trip was busy because we had a lot to accomplish... we packed a lot of activity into 6 days."
A mixed fleet of OP4s, an OP2 and an OP15 kept every family warm through the freezing nights.
