Trip Details:

This July the Brech and Piggott families boondock on the East Walker River in Nevada. This is one of many trips these neighbors have taken together with their OP4s.

“We enjoyed playing in the show at Sonora Pass (in July!)! The kids had a blast having a snowball fight while wearing shorts and tee shirts.”

“This trip to the Easter Sierra’s took us up and over Sonora Pass. This in itself was a feat because it takes you up to 9600 ft which has up to 26% grade.”

The river was out of its banks and we had to drive through a couple hundred yards of foot-deep water in the dark when we arrived. This was a little nerve-racking because we were really unsure how deep it was.

“The drive to our camping spot was an easy dirt/gravel road for the first 90 percent.”

“The final mile was a single-lane dirt/rock trail with tight switchbacks, making the campsite less accessible to the average person.”

“The bugs were unbearable when we arrived. The front of the jeep looked like there was a massacre with all the bugs that had been killed while driving to our campsite at night.’

“We set up lights to aid in setting up at night and we could not use them because the bugs were overwhelming, so we ended up setting up in the dark with no lights other than a sliver of a moon.”

We spent time around the camp soaking our feet in the water pools nearby. We drove into Bridgeport, CA, and stumbled upon a rodeo, where we ended up having a great time watching all the cowboys and cowgirls roping cattle and bucking broncos.

One of our favorite places to visit while in Bridgeport is Joly Cone. This is one of the only places we know of that has ice cream. We spent a few days riding our motorcycles up and down the desert and mountain roads, exploring new places along the way.

A great stopping point that we took in is Fletcher, NV, which was a switching starting for stagecoaches to trade out for fresh horses. All that is left is the freshwater spring and an old root cellar.
