Trip Details:

Get ready for the most electric Opus adventure yet!  Jared Chase puts the Rivian to the test on his recent trip to Anza Borrego towing the OP4.

“Driving while towing with the Opus is absolutely incredible. The Rivian has AMPLE power and instant torque. I can easily pass a big rig semi truck and go from 70-90mph with ease. It feels secure, which is amazing given its footprint is slightly larger than a Toyota Tacoma,

... but smaller than a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500. You honestly forget it's back there at times, it’s that good and capable.”

On this trip, Jared explored Borrego Springs, Lake Isabella, and Kernville. “The Opus off-road capabilities tethered with the Rivian R1T are amazing. I’ve been able to get to some remote locations.

“I’ve gone pretty far up Coyote Canyon in Anza Borrego State Park, which is pretty extreme off-road. But with the Rivian onboard air compressor, it makes deflating the tires on the Opus a breeze and filling back up super easy.”

“The other fun part about having an electric truck when camping is you can use the onboard 120v plugs to charge the batteries in the opus (in a pinch) for a little extra juice.”

What’s the Mileage/Range with the Rivian Towing the OP4? Jared explains that it depends on the terrain you travel and speed, it has the capability to go roughly 180-215 or so with the OP4 on a full charge… but “this isn’t a realistic scenario as I don’t typically travel from 100% to empty.  I have planned my routes and stops based on charger location and destination.”

Jared traveled roughly 245 miles from home to his final destination at Hospital Flat Campground near Kernville.

“I started with 100% charge and stopped after 80 miles for a quick 15-minute charge, then again in another 80 miles for a 30-minute charge. From there I passed Lake Isabella, on to Kernville, and up to Hospital Flat Campground and arrived with roughly 45 percent charge.”
